MIDDLE EAST ESCALATION: Regional tensions deepen as US strikes Iran-linked targets and Israeli troops push deeper into Lebanon
Fresh tensions are sweeping across the Middle East after the United States carried out new strikes on Iranian-linked targets while Israeli ground forces reportedly advanced north of Lebanon’s Litani River in intensified operations against Hezbollah.
The developments mark another dangerous escalation in the widening regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, Lebanon and the United States.
According to international media reports, the US launched strikes targeting what officials described as Iranian military infrastructure believed to threaten maritime security and American forces near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state-linked media later confirmed explosions near Bandar Abbas but claimed there were no casualties.
At the same time, fighting intensified in southern Lebanon after Hezbollah reported direct clashes with Israeli troops north of the Litani River — an area beyond Israel’s previously declared buffer zone.
Israeli Operations Expand in Lebanon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier announced that the Israeli military would expand operations in Lebanon using “large forces on the ground” to secure new areas and weaken Hezbollah positions.
Lebanese officials say airstrikes and ground operations have triggered fresh displacement across southern parts of the country, with civilians fleeing north as bombardments continue. Reuters reports that violence has spread well beyond Israel’s earlier security zone, affecting large sections of southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah fighters have vowed continued resistance, describing Israeli advances beyond the Litani River as a major escalation.
The latest developments have raised fears that the conflict could spiral into a broader regional war involving multiple fronts.
Iran has sharply criticized US military action in the Gulf, while regional governments continue pushing for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies are warning of worsening civilian suffering as fighting continues across Lebanon and tensions remain high in the Gulf region.
