Lamu Embraces Digital Future as Over 1,000 Youths Graduate with Digital Literacy Skills

Lamu County has taken a giant leap into the digital age, marking a historic milestone as more than 1,000 young people graduate with vital digital literacy skills. This transformative initiative aims to empower youth, bridge the digital divide, and unlock new opportunities for economic growth and innovation.

"Today, we are not just celebrating graduation; we are launching our youth into a brighter, more connected future," said County Digital Coordinator Aisha Mwinyi. "Digital literacy is the key to unlocking endless opportunities in today’s world."

The program, launched earlier this year, focused on equipping youths with essential skills in computers, internet usage, coding, and digital entrepreneurship. It is part of Lamu’s broader vision to become a hub for technology-driven development, leveraging its rich cultural heritage and strategic location.

Many graduates expressed excitement about their newfound skills, envisioning careers in IT, e-commerce, and digital marketing. Local businesses are also optimistic, noting that digitally literate youths can drive innovation and boost the local economy.

The county government plans to expand the program and integrate digital literacy into the mainstream education system, ensuring that more young people can benefit from this digital revolution.

Lamu's bold move into the digital era signals a future where youth empowerment through technology paves the way for sustainable development and prosperity.
