Thousands of former KCSE candidates can now access their examination certificates online following the launch of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) digital certificate platform. The move is expected to benefit job seekers, university applicants and former students whose certificates remained inaccessible for years.
Candidates who sat for KCSE examinations between 1994 and 2025 can obtain digital copies of their certificates after completing verification and paying an access fee of approximately KSh1,300.
Step 1: Visit the KNEC e-Certificate Portal
Open the official KNEC e-Certificate platform through the KNEC portals page and select the e-Certificate service.
Step 2: Create an Account
Register using your email address and personal details. The system will send a One-Time Password (OTP) to your email for account verification.
Step 3: Log Into the Portal
Use your registered email address to sign in and enter the OTP sent to your email to access your dashboard.
Step 4: Verify Your Identity
Enter your national ID number and other personal information as required by the system. The details must match official government records for successful verification.
Step 5: Enter Your KCSE Examination Details
Provide your KCSE index number, examination year and select KCSE as the examination type.
Step 6: Pay the Access Fee
Complete payment of the KSh1,300 certificate access fee using the payment options provided on the platform.
Step 7: Download Your Certificate
Once payment and verification are completed successfully, your digital KCSE certificate will become available for download in PDF format.
Step 8: Save and Share Your Certificate
Download and securely save a copy of your certificate. You can also share it with employers, universities and professional institutions when required.
The new system is expected to reduce delays and frustrations that many former students faced when trying to access their academic documents. It also introduces digital verification tools designed to help employers and institutions confirm the authenticity of certificates and curb document fraud.
