No More Time: KRA Rules Out Extending June 30 Tax Filing Deadline for Millions of Kenyans

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has ruled out extending the June 30 deadline for filing 2025 income tax returns, putting millions of taxpayers on notice as the clock ticks down to the annual filing deadline.

With only days remaining, KRA has maintained that all eligible taxpayers must submit their returns by June 30, dismissing speculation that the tax authority could grant additional time as it has done in some previous years.

The announcement is expected to trigger a last-minute rush on the iTax platform as employees, business owners and self-employed Kenyans scramble to avoid penalties associated with late filing. Under Kenyan tax laws, failure to file returns on time can attract fines and other compliance measures.

Tax experts have urged taxpayers not to wait until the final hours, warning that increased traffic on the online system could lead to delays and technical challenges that may prevent successful submission before the deadline.

The decision by KRA comes as the government continues efforts to improve tax compliance and increase revenue collection to fund public services and development projects across the country.

Will the firm stance by KRA improve tax compliance among Kenyans, or will thousands once again find themselves facing penalties for missing the deadline? With June 30 fast approaching, taxpayers have little time left to act.
