President William Ruto has officially opened the 820-metre Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Flyover, a major infrastructure project expected to ease congestion along one of Nairobi's busiest transport corridors.
The new flyover is designed to improve traffic flow at the busy junction connecting Ngong Road and Naivasha Road, an area that has long been notorious for heavy traffic during peak hours.
According to the government, the project forms part of broader efforts to modernize Nairobi's transport infrastructure, reduce travel times and improve connectivity between residential areas and the city's commercial centres.
Motorists using the route are expected to benefit from shorter commuting times and reduced traffic bottlenecks, while businesses in surrounding areas could see improved accessibility for customers and suppliers.
President Ruto said the project reflects the government's commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports economic growth, trade and urban mobility as Nairobi continues to expand.
Transport experts note that while new roads and flyovers can significantly improve traffic flow, long-term solutions will also require investment in public transport systems and better urban planning to keep pace with the city's rapid growth.
Will the new flyover finally solve congestion along the corridor, or will Nairobi's growing population quickly absorb the gains? For many commuters, any reduction in time spent in traffic will be a welcome victory.
