Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno has given a warning to politicians who are accused of paying for political violence. He said that if these politicians are found to be hiring or paying for people to cause trouble at events they will lose the police security that is assigned to them.
During a meeting to talk about security Ali Nuno said that the National Police Service will not put up with leaders who use gangs to scare their opponents disrupt meetings or cause violence.
He warned that politicians who are involved in these activities could face going to court and other punishments including having their police security taken away.
Ali Nuno said that the police cannot protect leaders who are also helping to cause trouble. He asked politicians to run their campaigns in a way and to follow the law.
This warning is coming at a time when people are getting worried about some instances of violence and the use of hired people to cause trouble at rallies and public gatherings in different parts of the country.
Ali Nuno told the people living in the area that the security agencies are watching the situation closely and will take action against anyone who is found to be organizing, paying for or taking part in violent acts no matter which political party they belong to.
He also asked the public to report anyone who is involved in violence saying that keeping the peace is something that everyone is responsible for.
The Coast police boss said again that the National Police Service is committed to making sure that all political activities are done in a way as the country gets closer, to the 2027 General Election.
