David Ndii, the Chairperson of the Presidential Council of Economic Advisors wants to make something about what President William Ruto said about paying for higher education. President William Ruto did not say that the government will pay for every university or college student.
David Ndii said:
"The President William Ruto did not say the government will pay for everything. He said students will get financial support."
This is because a lot of people were talking about what President William Ruto said when he announced that every student who gets into a university or college will get financial support. Many people thought this meant the government would cover all the costs of education.
David Ndii says that full financial support could mean a lot of different things like government scholarships, loans from the Higher Education Loans Board, bursaries and money from families. It does not mean the government will pay for everything directly.
Now people are talking again about how this new way of paying for education will actually work. Students, parents and people involved in education want to know more, about how the new policy will be put into practice.
The government will give details soon about how the new higher education funding model will work and what full financial support will mean for students who are starting at universities and colleges.
All of this is happening because Kenya is trying to figure out a way to pay for higher education. Kenya wants to make sure everyone can afford to go to university. Also make sure the public universities can keep running without too much trouble.
