National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee Chairperson Nelson Koech says the claims made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are not true. Rigathi Gachagua claimed that Members of Parliament asked for a KSh3 billion bribe from the British Army Training Unit Kenya to allow them to continue their Defence Cooperation Agreement.
Nelson Koech thinks these claims are false and misleading. He says that Parliament does its job according to the Constitution and the rules that are in place. The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee Chairperson Nelson Koech also says that when it comes to renewing defence cooperation agreements everything has to be done and Parliament has to scrutinize it.
He says that lawmakers did not ask for money in exchange for their approval. This is what Nelson Koech says in response to the claims made by Rigathi Gachagua. Rigathi Gachagua had said that lawmakers asked for billions of shillings from the British Army Training Unit Kenya when they were talking about renewing the defence agreement.
- The British Army Training Unit Kenya defence cooperation agreement is what governs the military personnel who train in Kenya.
- This agreement has been looked at closely by Parliament in years.
Nelson Koech says that if someone is making claims of corruption they need to have proof and they should report it to the people not just make statements in public. At the time this was written Rigathi Gachagua had not said anything back, to Nelson Koech. No one had announced that they would investigate these claims.
