Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again transformed his Wamunyoro residence into a political fortress, this time hosting a delegation from the Wiper Patriotic Front in a meeting that signals a major realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election .
Speaking directly to the delegates, Gachagua did not mince his words, declaring that the growing cooperation between the Mount Kenya region and other parts of the country is now a "formidable political force" capable of defining the nation's next administration . He framed this emerging alliance as the "huge solid mountain" that will shake the country and become the centre of the next government formation .
But the fireworks didn't stop at coalition talk; Gachagua took a direct swipe at President William Ruto, telling him to "please keep off family matters" and stop interfering with what he called the unity of political "cousins" from regions sharing a common culture . He credited Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka with helping to bring these different sections of the mountain together, specifically countering what he described as Ruto's attempts to divide the region . This meeting is not an isolated event.
Gachagua has been on an aggressive political charm offensive, turning his home into a bustling command centre hosting leaders from the South Rift, grassroots representatives, and even businessman Jimi Wanjigi .
These 45-day intensive consultations are reportedly aimed at building a united opposition front and identifying a single presidential candidate to challenge President Ruto . However, the path to unity is far from smooth.
While Gachagua celebrates the Wiper partnership, cracks are showing within the opposition. Leaders like Peter Munya of PNU have openly rejected the use of Wamunyoro as a negotiation venue, arguing that national decisions cannot be made in an individual's private home . Furthermore, Munya and DP leader Justin Muturi have pushed back against Gachagua's calls for smaller Mt. Kenya parties to dissolve and join his DCP party, accusing him of attempting to sideline them .
As Wamunyoro continues to buzz with political activity, the question remains whether Gachagua's emerging coalition can withstand internal pressures and truly present a formidable challenge to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
