Two Killed, 19 Injured as TUM Students' Bus Crashes on Way to 'Beast' Burial

Two people have been killed and 19 others injured after a bus carrying students from the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) was involved in a road accident along the Kisumu–Awasi highway on Friday.

The students were travelling to attend the burial of former TUM student leader Elvis Otieno, popularly known as “Beast.”

The bus reportedly overturned in the Awasi area of Kisumu County, leaving passengers injured and prompting an emergency response.

Kisumu traffic boss Peter Maina confirmed the deaths and injuries, according to reports. The injured students were taken for medical attention as authorities responded to the crash.

The accident has cast a shadow over the send-off of Otieno, whose death had brought together fellow students and friends travelling from Mombasa and other parts of the country to attend his burial.

Rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing, while authorities investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.

Because casualty figures are still developing, reports should be updated as police and medical authorities release confirmed information.
