"Growing up in Lamu, I always believed that young people had the power to change their communities. The question was whether we were willing to step forward and take responsibility."
My name is Nasoor Mahfudh Mohamed, and my journey has been driven by a simple belief: real change begins when ordinary people decide to act.
As a young leader from Lamu County, I have always been passionate about creating opportunities for young people while protecting the environment that sustains our communities. Like many coastal communities, Lamu faces unique challenges, but I have always seen those challenges as opportunities to innovate, lead, and make a difference.
Over the years, I have pursued entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and environmental conservation, not because the path was easy, but because I believe every generation has a responsibility to leave its community better than it found it.
The journey has taught me that leadership is not about titles. It is about service. It is about listening to people, understanding their struggles, and working together to find solutions that create lasting impact.
Today, I continue to advocate for environmental sustainability while encouraging young people to believe in their potential and take an active role in shaping the future of Lamu and Kenya.
If there is one lesson I have learned, it is that meaningful change does not happen overnight. It starts with one idea, one action, and the courage to keep moving forward even when the road is uncertain.
And for every young person with a dream, my message is simple: start where you are, use what you have, and never underestimate the impact you can make.
