DCP Claims Major Victory as Sammy Waweru Wins High-Stakes Ol Kalou By-Election

Sammy‍‌‍‍‌ Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has won the Ol Kal ou Parliamentary By-election, thus giving the party a major political victory before the 2027 General Election.

After completing the tallying and verification of votes across the electorate, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Waweru as the duly elected Member of Parliament.

The by-election became a national issue because of the intensive campaign work for days which were also days of alleged instances of voter bribing and voter intimidation through campaign-related violence. Thus the by-election turned out to be one of the hottestly contested elections of the last months.

It is anticipated that Waweru's win will add more strength to DCP's momentum as different opposition parties keep on laying their cards in readiness for the 2027 elections. Party loyalists hailed the result by saying it was a powerful backing to the party's agenda and leadership.

The IEBC stated that the election proceeded in line with the procedures provided by law and urged all the candidates and their supporters to accept the result, and to refer to the appropriate judicial avenues, in case of disputes.

Experts in the field of politics say the outcome may affect future alliance deals and raise DCP's position in general as Kenya's political map keeps changing until the next General Election comes up.

The Ol Kalou election over, the spotlight seems to be moving to how the win will change opposition politics, what it will tell about voter preferences as the race to the 2027 polls ‍‌‍‍‌quickens.
