Sammy Waweru Takes Early Lead in Ol Kalou By-Election as Vote Counting Continues

Sammy‍‌‍‍‌ Waweru has been identified as the leading candidate in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election as the first results show him leading while more votes are being counted in the constituency.

This election was highly anticipated and has managed to capture the attention of the whole country especially as it was happening when political tensions were at their peak. Moreover, there were days of controversy with accusations of voter bribery and campaign violence even before the election day.

Since election officials are still counting votes from the polling stations, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) asked the public and political leaders to be patient until the official announcement of results.

It is true that Waweru's lead, which is still preliminary, has given his supporters a boost but the result of the election is still open as more polling stations are still sending their results to the constituency tallying centres. Those watching the election have warned that no one should claim a win until the IEBC has completed the process of verification and announcement.

This by-election in Ol Kalou is actually a very important political indicator not only for the 2027 General Election but also for the ruling coalition and opposition who are both eager and looking forward to winning the vote as a sign of their political dominance.

During the count, the security personnel have been on high alert as the authorities are keen on ensuring that everything is running smoothly with no breaches or interruptions to public peace.

The IEBC on its part has made it known that they are serious about a transparent, credible and lawful electoral process and that they will release the final certified results after the completion of the vote verification process.

As the counting goes on, focus is still on Ol Kalou, the place from where the final vote result will be not only politically consequential for Nyandarua County but also have far-reaching ‍‌‍‍‌implications.
