Israel Accused of Expanding West Bank Land Seizures as New Military Orders Target Palestinian Property

The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission has reported that Israel has issued 49 military orders that have led to the confiscation of 2,093 dunams (about 517 acres) of Palestinian private property from January of this year until now.

It alleged that military orders include military confiscation of Palestinian properties, their use for public facilities, and other purposes which raises concerns regarding land rights and expansion of Israeli authorities’ control in occupied territories.

Palestinian authorities argue that the military orders will further restrict the access of Palestinians to their own lands and could ultimately change the West Bank where land disputes and settlements are among the main issues during the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

So far, Israeli authorities have not made a statement regarding the commission’s latest statement. In the past, Israel stated that military orders are in line with its defense needs and the law.

The West Bank has long been under international scrutiny regarding the issues of settlements and land usage. While significant part of the international community sees the Israeli settlements in the West Bank as illegal, Israel denies this claim.

The current report is set to enhance scrutiny from countries around the world on what is happening in the West Bank, a region where violence has increased due to the ongoing security operations, increase in settlements and continued violence from both Israeli and Palestinians.

As the conflict continues, the control and ownership of land remains the common reason behind the conflict where both sides are facing countries around the world that are asking them to stick to the road map toward a lasting political solution.
