The International Criminal Court has taken away Karim Khans job as Chief Prosecutor. This happened because the countries that are part of the court voted to remove him. They did this after they found out that he did some bad things.
The group of countries that make decisions for the court called the Assembly of States Parties voted to remove Karim Khan from his job. They did this after they looked into some things he did and found out that he was very wrong. Karim Khan says he did not do these things and that the way they investigated him was not fair.
Karim Khan started working as Chief Prosecutor in 2021. During his time he was in charge of important international investigations. These included looking into what happened in Ukraine, Sudan and the conflict in Gaza. Even though Karim Khan is not Chief Prosecutor anymore the International Criminal Court will still keep working on these cases. They will also still have the power to arrest people.
Now the International Criminal Court needs to find a new person to be in charge of the Office of the Prosecutor. The countries that are part of the court will choose this person according to the rules of the Rome Statute.
This is an important time for the International Criminal Court. They are still working on big cases about war crimes and crimes against humanity. At the time they are getting a lot of pressure from some governments. The International Criminal Court or ICC is going through a change, with Karim Khan no longer being the Chief Prosecutor of the ICC.
