The Social Health Authority (SHA) has directed hospitals to review and contest any verified National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) claims worth KSh10 million or less before July 31, after which the claims will be finalized for payment.
SHA said healthcare providers should carefully examine the verified claims and raise any disputes within the stipulated period to ensure discrepancies are resolved before payments are processed.
According to the authority, claims that are not contested by the deadline will be considered accurate and will proceed to the payment stage under the ongoing transition from NHIF to the SHA system.
The move is part of SHA's efforts to streamline outstanding NHIF claims, improve accountability and ensure healthcare facilities receive payments based on verified records.
Hospitals with concerns over claim amounts, patient records or other verification issues have been encouraged to submit their appeals before the deadline to avoid delays or disputes once payments are finalized.
The authority emphasized that the review process is intended to promote transparency and accuracy as it works to clear pending claims and strengthen confidence in Kenya's evolving public health financing system.
Healthcare providers are expected to complete the verification process ahead of the July 31 deadline as SHA continues implementing reforms under the country's new universal health coverage framework.
