Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat has commissioned two new barracks at National Police College – Embakasi 'B' Campus, symbolizing the National Police Service's commitment to the improvement of officers' welfare and living conditions.
In terms of the quality of accommodation and comfort, the new living quarters should have a positive effect on officers who are doing practical training as well as those serving at the police college. This will help the police to resolve the problem of inadequate housing for police officers who have been living in the same condition for a very long time.
In his official speaking engagement at the commissioning ceremony, DIG Lagat stated that by upgrading the accommodation quality for officers living at the police college, their general standard of living, morale, and operational readiness will be affected in a positive manner. He further stated that a better environment encourages officers to perform better and be able to meet the increasing demands in the delivery of services.
These barracks have been built under the government’s comprehensive program to upgrade police infrastructure, expand the capacity for training recruits, and, generally, the effectiveness of the National Police Service.
The authorities of the police have continuously affirmed that one of the major objectives of the continuing development in the security sector is to enhance the level of comfort and welfare of police officers, not only through housing and training facilities but also a work environment that is conducive to the officers.
Embakasi 'B' Campus, where the barracks have been commissioned, is among the most prestigious police academies the country offers training on various policing activities and also for specialized security roles.
It is against the backdrop of the government's continued investments in law enforcement that the commissioning of these facilities is taking place. Through these efforts, professionalism, operational efficiency, and in general, the effectiveness of the police in Kenya, will, no doubt, be increased.
