Starlink Hits Capacity Limit: New Sign-Ups Suspended in Seven Kenyan Counties

There are thousands of Kenyans who are awaiting the chance to join Starlink as the satellite internet service cuts new residential subscribers in several counties due to the already incurring overcapacity.

This suspension affects the regions that have shown a strong interest in Starlink internet, making the company unable to accept new applications until there are some available resources for network coverage.

The top seven counties impacted are Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Murang'a, Nakuru and Uasin Gishu, where clients are informed that the satellite internet is not available due to lack of capacity.

It is important to state that the current clients will be served as usual while the suspension only affects the signing up of new clients in certain counties.

Starlink will have to work on the expansion of capacity and in case they get enough resources, they will re-open the signing of new clients. As for the rest, they can wait for the announcement of the new network capacity update.

Additionally, this freeze showcases how difficult the development of satellite internet services is while the adaptation of this service increases.

The messages that are being communicated to potential subscribers are clearly defined – demand for Starlink occurs faster than their capability to accommodate it. In counties where Starlink decided to freeze any new subscriptions, people will have to wait until the net gets expanded first.
