Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been updated on the status of government's water sector agenda after meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Water and other senior officials in the sector at Harambee House Annex on Friday 3rd July 2026.
This briefing session gathered the Cabinet Secretary responsible for water, the principle secretaries and heads of different water agencies to review progress on ongoing projects and evaluate the sector's priorities.
The main discussion theme was to improve the provision of clean and reliable water, increase irrigation areas and speed up the implementation of key infrastructure initiatives that lead to support of households, agriculture and industry.
The water sector is still the core of government's development plan especially as Kenya is the country that faces various challenges due to climate change, drought and the rising demand that is caused by population growth and urbanisation.
The officials are going to direct their efforts on enhancing water distribution system and strengthening water security in both urban and rural areas in the entire country.
Coordination between government ministries and agencies delivering projects that directly impact millions of Kenyans was also emphasized in the meeting.
Will a stronger focus lead to more flowing taps and less communities struggling with water shortages or will the implementation challenges still slow down the progress? The government's success story in the water sector for many households and farmers will be first of all in their availability to water in their homes.
