The Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi was placed under close police watch on the Saba Saba Day with police deployment and setting up of numerous roadblocks to control the anticipated protests for that day.
Most of the major roads in the city were closed off and diverted so that peace could be maintained.
As a result, most of the shops along the CBD were closed as most of the workers did not want to come to work due to the tension in the air. The transport companies also changed their routes owing to the situation.
This action was informed by the Saba Saba struggles which has deep historical and political significance for Kenyans, as it is the day characterized by the call for multiparty democracy and right to assembly.
The authorities have insisted that the security measures have been put in place to secure the citizens, protect properties and deter criminals.
As time goes by, Kenyans will be monitoring the protest closely to see whether it will remain peaceful or turn violent as the outcome will have an effect in the word of politics in the near future.
